HOW TO REGISTER SCHOOL AND INSTITUTE WITH CAC
For a school to be set up in Nigeria, it must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a limited liability company. The procedure for how to register a school in Nigeria and getting the vital endorsement from the government administration to guarantee the school is working legitimately must be commenced with due incorporation with the CAC. Furthermore, a training institute can also be registered with the CAC as a limited liability company.
Requirements for Registration of a school as a Private Limited Liability Company:
- The proposed name of the school (2 names must be submitted)
- The address of the school
- The authorized share capital of the school
- The objectives of the school
- Particulars of the 2 directors and shareholders of the school – (copy of their identification card, which could be National passport/National Identity card/Driver’s license or voters’ card)
- Age, phone numbers, email address, residential address and signature on a plain sheet of the 2 directors and shareholders.
- If there is more than one shareholder, the percentage of each shareholders in the school.
Upon successful registration of the School as a private limited liability company, the school shall be issued Certificate of Incorporation, a Form CAC 1.1/Application Status and a Memorandum and Article of Association shall be issued to the Directors.
Approval from the Ministry of Education
After successful registration of a school with the Corporate Affairs Commission, the next thing to be done is obtaining approval from the Ministry of Education in the state where the school is located.
The following are the steps for obtaining the approval for the school from the Ministry of Education:
- A formal application shall be made to the Ministry of Education of the state where the school is located
- 1st inspection of the school by the officials of the Ministry of educations. The inspection here ranges from inspection of toilets, classroom and administrative blocks.
- Submission of approval forms by the School to the Ministry of Education.
- 2nd inspection of the school by the officials of the Ministry of Education. The inspection here ranges from inspection of curriculum textbooks and other items.
- Approval certificate awarded to the school after satisfaction by the Ministry officials upon the 2nd inspection.
Conclusion
Finally, for any school to be duly registered in Nigeria, such school must have been registered with the CAC in accordance with the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act LFN 2020. Upon registration of such a school, approval must be gotten from the ministry of education of the state before the commencement of operation.
