Two sister agencies, Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) and di Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) dey drag their self for twitter on top who suppose dey issue Stamp Duties.
Di Nigeria Postal Service say NIPOST na di only agency wey dey charged wit di responsibility of producing adhesives stamps and any money wey comot from di sale of such stamps suppose enta NIPOST pocket.
Di Chairmo of NIPOST, Maimuna Abubakar for series of tweets wey she post on twitter accuse FIRS say, di sister agency wan steal dia mandate. She say di agency no only wan steal dia stamps, but also dia ideas, wey dem don work for since 2016. Madam Maimuna say FIRS don begin dey sell stamps instead of make dem buy from dia hand.

Under the extant laws of Nigeria to wit the NIPOST Act, the Stamp Duties Act and the Finance Act, the adhesive postage stamp is not only used for postage it is the only stamp with which denoting of ALL receipts documents and registrable instruments is to be done in Nigeria.

Section 34(2) of the NIPOST Act 2004 provides and vests in the Postmaster General of NIPOST the power to appoint or engage agents as business partners to sell by retailing the adhesive postage stamps minted by NIPOST.

For im response, FIRS Director Communication and Liaison, Abdullahi Ismaila Ahmad say e dey unfortunate say NIPOST oga no sabi di difference between Stamp Duty and Postage Stamp.
He explain say NIPOST work na to develop, promote and do any thing wey relate to postal services at reasonable rates but FIRS work na to assessing, collecting, and accounting for all tax types including Stamp Duties.
Di FIRS oga say di stamp duty wey NIPOST dey collect dey illegal and di agency dey determined to collect all di money wey NIPOST don collect from di illegally operated Stamp Duties Account into di federation account.
FIRS also claim say dem dey follow wetin President Muhammadu Buhari for di recently Inter-ministerial committee on the recovery of stamp duties from 2016 till date tok.
The FIRS is determined to not only ensure that all monies collected by NIPOST into its illegally operated Stamp Duties Account are fully remitted into the Federation Account but also make sure that any kobo not accounted for in that account is legally recovered…

NIPOST na government parastatal wey dey established by Decree 41 of 1992 and dia work na to develop, promote, and provide adequate and efficiently coordinated postal services at reasonable rates.
Di agency also get di responsibility of printing and providing postage stamps for payment of postage tariff and payment of stamp duties by di decree No. 18 of 1987.
Wetin be FIRS work
Federal Inland Revenue Service na di agency wey dey responsible for assessing, collecting and accounting for tax and other revenues wey dem go pay to di Federal Government of Nigeria.
Apart from to collect tax, di agency dey do plenty online services like e-stamp, e-registration, e-filling and and many others wey dey dia website.
Wetin be Stamp Duty
Stamp duties na tax wey pipo or organization dey pay to federal or state government on documents also known as instruments for di purpose of di Stamp Duties Act) such as Conveyances on Sale,
Bills of Exchange, Promissory notes, Agreements, Contracts or even documents such as Letters and Certificates of admission, Instruments of Apprenticeship, Insurance Policies etc.
