BREAKING: EFCC Re-arrests Mompha – DETAILS

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has re-arrested internet celebrity Ismaila Mustapha popularly known as Mompha who has been charged with money laundering by the Federal High Court.

Sources have disclosed that the internet sensation Mompha was re-arrest when he went to the EFFC office in Ikoyi last Friday to reclaim his five wristwatches, one Apple air pod, one iPhone 8 mobile phone and a pair of sunglasses which were seized from him by the anti-graft agency.

The agency was ordered by the court after his lawyer Mr. Gboyega Oyewole (SAN) filed an application for the release of his items. The court ruled that since the seized items of Mompha were not part of the listed as exhibits in the money laundering charges filed against him, the EFCC has no justification in keeping his items.

“Failure to release the property is illegal. As of today, no charge has been filed regarding the items. It is too long to withhold the applicant’s properties” the judge said.

Sources say that few minutes after Mompha left the Efcc office in Ikoyi after retrieving his items, operatives of the anti-graft agency arrest him and put him in custody again. His arrest was later confirmed by his lawyer Oyewole vowing to challenge it out in court.

Oyewole said, “I am filing processes tomorrow (Tuesday); they didn’t tell us why they are detaining him. They have not told us the basis for this re-arrest. As far as we are concerned, the EFCC is seeking to overreach the court because this is coming after we filed our no-case submission to the charges. When they had the opportunity to amend their charges they didn’t and they are claiming that there is a new charge.”

However, the correspondent for EFCC, Mr. Dele Oyewale has stated that the fresh arrest of Mompha is unconnected to the existing charges in court but related to Internet Fraud.
