The Zamfara Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has appealed to the Federal Authorities to intervene over what it referred to as” unlawful dissolution of elected native authorities councils within the state”.
Alhaji Lawal Liman, the state APC Chairman mentioned this in an announcement on Tuesday in Gusau, describing the dissolution as unconstitutional.
Gov. Bello Matawalle had dissolved all of the 14 elected native authorities councils within the state after a advice by the State Home of Meeting.
“The dissolution of the native councils by the state authorities via the mixed unlawful and unconstitutional motion of the legislative and govt arms reveals that there’s a truncation of democracy within the state.
“The APC a political social gathering that has been guaranteeing adherence to the foundations of legislation and won’t settle for this unconstitutional motion that we think about like a coup.
“The crux of the matter was the refusal of the six native authorities chairmen of Bakura, Gummi, Maradun, Shinkafi and Talata-Mafara to decamp to the Peoples Democratic Social gathering (PDP).
“The unlucky factor was that 24 hours after dissolution of the councils, 9 out of the 14 native authorities chairmen who defected from APC to the PDP had been re-appointed as sole directors of their councils,” Liman mentioned.
He added:”The appointment of sole directors is even opposite to the provisions of the State Native Authorities Legal guidelines of 2012 which stipulates that solely a public servant on grade degree 14 must be appointed as Sole Administrator for a neighborhood council.
“Counting on part 7 (1) of the Nigerian Structure and Part 81 (1) (a) and (b) of the State Native Authorities Legislation 2012, the APC is assured that this dissolution drama shall not stand the take a look at of time.
“l am interesting to the federal authorities, involved businesses, native, nationwide and worldwide democratic establishments in addition to the media and Civil Society Organisations to face for the enforcement of justice, fairness, and democracy in Nigeria and to not enable the truncation of the nation’s democratic values.
“We’re strongly rejecting the unlawful dissolution of the elected native councils which clearly point out a politically motivated motion towards them.
“I subsequently name on our teeming supporters to stay calm and legislation abiding because the social gathering will do the whole lot potential throughout the legislation to get redress.
“We have now concluded all of the preparations, very quickly we’ll problem the PDP-led authorities and State Home of Meeting in courtroom over this matter.”(NAN)
